Yariv Ben-Naim

Co-I

Yariv is an expert in fungal pathogenesis with over 13 years of experience with destructive diseases as Fusarium wilt, Powdery mildew, Downy Mildew and viruses of major crops as cucurbits, Tomato, Potato, Sweet basil and medical cannabis. In Last few years Yariv focused in sweet basil disease and stresses (Fusarium, Downy mildew, chilling and shelf life) and deals with phylogenetic understanding of the virulence abilities and diversity of DM and FOB pathogens. Yariv research filed is mainly focus biology, genetics, genomics and breeding of Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) and their use in horticulture. According to that Yariv research is focusing on tissue culture and interspecies methodology for gene pool enrichment as a basis for hybrids production, breeding, transformation and gene editing. Yariv developed innovative approaches to overcome sterility from interspecific hybridizations and developing new novel disease resistant sweet basils and released several registered varieties of sweet basils for different markets based on is publications and patents. Recently a new field of research in which Yariv is engaged is genome wide association study (GWAS) which is one of the new bio-statistical applied tools used understand the crop wild relative relationships and became one of extensive crop phylogenetic tools, utilizing the genetic diversity in close relative species, an additional approach for enriching the genetic diversity of CWR. Yariv has been involved in conservation, sustainability and renewable energies activities. Yariv has established an innovative agro-solar farm which aims to examine the maximum utilization of solar energy for photon harvesting compeer with photosynthesis photon harvesting and yield.
